Spacious, campsites along scenic lake.
The Setting
Calhoun Falls State Recreation Area is located on Lake Russell, a lake not yet crowded but becoming known as a great fishing destination ever since a state record walleye was caught in its waters in 1994. Coves around this 26,650 - acre lake create excellent fish habitats for walleye, bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish, and a fishing pier adds another platform from which to cast your line. Because the campsites at this park are the largest in the state system (several are pull - through double sites that can accommodate 40 - foot rigs) camping is a popular activity. Tent sites are tucked away in a walk - in area shaded by tall pines.
The park also features a 1.75 mile hiking trail among the mixed pine and hardwood forest, a tennis court and several picnic areas.
The Facility
Three campgrounds are located along the shores of Lake Russell. Two of the campgrounds provide individual water and electrical hook - ups. Some of these sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, others up to 30 feet.
While tent campers may use these sites, a designated walk - in tent camping area includes tent pads and centralized water. All but one tent site is waterfront. Each campground is convenient to restrooms with hot showers.

Cedar Bluff Nature Trail - - This rolling 1.7 mile blue blazed loop trail begins at the trailhead near the tennis courts in Calhoun Falls State Recreation Area. At the far end of the loop, you can take a spur trail to the camping area, or continue and return to the tennis courts.
