The Setting
Have fun boating, windsurfing, fishing for Coho salmon, small mouth bass and perch, or simply relax and enjoy the great outdoors. The long shoreline of this central Idaho mountain lake is ideal for hiking, bird-watching, photography and mountain-biking. A scenic drive 75-miles north of Boise brings you to the park.
Lake Cascade State Park provides diverse recreational opportunities in every season. Popular for all types of boating, the lake’s prevailing winds make it especially well-suited for sailing and windsurfing. The park is also a popular destination among anglers in pursuit of rainbow trout, Coho salmon, and small mouth bass and perch. Winter activities in the park include cross-country skiing and ice fishing.
The park’s various campgrounds and facilities are dispersed around the lake’s forty-one square miles of surface water and 86 miles of shoreline. Hiking, bird watching, photography, mountain biking, all types of boating, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and just plain relaxing are all favorite pastimes for park visitors. The towns of Donnelly and Cascade are located at either end of the park, and the town of McCall with its variety of restaurants and shops is only 13 miles north of the upper end of the lake.
The Facility
The park has two group camping opportunities: a group camp and the Osprey Point group yurt complex. There are 175 individual campsites in six developed campgrounds, dispersed camping areas offering primitive camping, several day use areas and multiple boat launch ramps.
For families, friends or businesses interested in planning a reunion, retreat or other group outing, Lake Cascade State Park’s group yurts are ideally suited to accommodating large groups and are open year-round. Situated on a bluff overlooking the lakeshore, this facility offers a peaceful environment removed from daily distractions while providing a wonderful view of Lake Cascade. The park yurts are circular, Mongolian-style domed tents 20 feet in diameter with wooden floors. They are fully insulated to provide comfortable shelter during our cold winter months as well as in the heat of summer. Other Information
This summer the park is hosting a series of three Dutch Oven Cooking classes (hors d’oeuvres, main courses, and desserts) that will culminate in a cook-off with prizes presented at the County Fair at Cascade Fairgrounds the first weekend in August.
