Q: How many times have you used your Tree Huggerz Campsite Organizer during the test period?
A: We used the Organizer one time.

Q: Was your Tree Huggerz Campsite Organizer easy to set up?
A: This item is extremely easy to setup.  You just adjust the length of the connector piece and wrap it around whatever size tree you are using.  And added bonus was that the Organizer straps would make it around some of the biggest trees around.

Q: What types of items did you hang on your Tree Huggerz Campsite Organizer?
A: We decided to hang a fishing pole, my Mac Daddy grilling tools, a small wood saw, hatchet, flashlight and in the two pouches was the kids sunscreen and my bag of small fire starters.

Q: Were you able to hang heavy gear from your Organizer? Did it hold up properly?
A: I did notice that when the heavier items were hung on the Organizer it would slip every now and then, but nothing that a little tightening of the straps couldn’t fix.

A: I think I would use more than one of these.  Obviously for me I would have one specifically for cooking and then one for items that are essential while cooking.  Like the flashlight, fire starters, matches, lighters, even a small water cooler.

Q: What was the best feature on the Organizer?

A: Yes, I would pay what the exact amount that the Organizer costs.

A: This sleeping bag is extremely comfortable for my kids. There is a lot of room to move around in and enough padding inside the bag to have a relaxing and comfortable sleep

Q: What was your favorite feature of the sleeping bag?
A: The best feature was just how soft the sleeping bag was. Especially when choosing a sleeping bag for kids, this is such an important factor. Q: How many times have you used your NightStar Flashlight during the test period?
A: I used the NightStar Flashlight multiple times

Q: Do you normally bring a flashlight with you on a camping trip?
A: Yes we normally take one along for our camping trips.

Q: How convenient was this flashlight?
A: It was quite convenient! It is small and very portable.

Q: How long did you have to shake the flashlight before you had enough light?
A: Initially, it took more than the 2 minutes. However, we kept shaking it and after a while it turned on. Thereafter, I’d just shake it a minute and would have light.

Q: Did the flashlight give off enough light?
A: It gave off a fair amount. I would prefer it give off more, but because its so small, it gave off enough for us to see.

Q: How long did light last in the flashlight?
A: I never actually ran it out, and I took it on a few good walks at night.

Q: Did you find this flashlight to be a good size?
A: It was the perfect size.

Q: Do you think this is an essential piece of equipment to take with you on a camping / outdoor trip?
A: Yes. We are getting ready to go on a backpacking trip in the boonies. We will have no source of light except what we take in. My NightStar CS is definitely going in the pack!

Q: Would you recommend this product to fellow campers?
A: Yes, in fact I already have!

MountainSmith Modular Hauler

Mountsmithmodhaulb The Hauler includes open topped duffle and 3 color-coded cubes. Its main compartment is open-topped with reinforced, padded haul handles, D-ring attachment points for a shoulder strap, front flat pocket, 3 compression straps and tie down loops to secure the hauler in your vehicle.

  1. Were you familiar with MountainSmith products prior to using the Hauler? I wasn’t too familiar with the products they made.
  1. How many times have you used your Modular Hauler 3 Storage System during the test period? I have used this product all the time. I leave it in the back of my Jeep.
  1. Did the Hauler help keep everything organized? Did the color coded cubes help? Absolutely.  I use the cubes to transport things from the house to the Jeep and camper. This is an amazing piece of equipment and ideal for any camping trip if you pack a lot, but want to keep everything organized.
  1. Do you believe this would be a useful item to have on a camping trip? Yes I do. The Hauler is ideal for camping because there are 3 cubes that allow you to keep everything organized. (ie. You can use one cube for clothes, one cube for cookware, and one for laundry.) If you are packing light in each cube, you can put them all in the large Hauler and take all 3 cubes with you at the same time. Talk about convenient!
  1. What was the Hauler’s best feature? Portability. Like I mentioned, you can take 1 cube with you or all 3 with you at the same time. This is amazing for a camping trip and doesn’t take up much space at all.
  1. Would you recommend it to your fellow campers? Absolutely. This product is great because you aren’t limited to use it for camping only. If you’re going somewhere for the day or just need to move things from one location to another, you should use the Hauler.
  1. Additional Comments This is an overall great piece of equipment and probably one of the most useful items I have ever used for camping. It really is a must have!

A: Absolutely! All I had to do was turn the crank repeatedly and point it towards the fire.  There was no assembly needed. I only had to take it out of the package and it was ready to be used.

Q: Do you believe this would be a useful item to have on a camping trip?
A: Yes. Using the Grill Blower is a lot better than fanning the fire. It’s not so hard on your arms. It’s a tiny piece of equipment that is easy to pack and should be taken on any camping trip if you plan on having a campfire or firing up the grill.

Q: Would you recommend it to your fellow campers?
A: Yes. Like I said, this is a great little tool to have on your camping trip. And if you’re a first time camper, than it will really help you in starting your first campfire. Just point it to the fire and start turning the crank. You’ll have a fire in no time.

Q: Additional Comments
A: It’s a helpful tool and easy to use. It’s a little noisy, so if you’re going to use this tool, you may want to use it before it gets dark. You don’t want to disturb anyone while they’re sleeping.

Roadmaster Suspension Solutions Anti-Sway Bars

Rssswayb If you have been around RV’s you have probably heard of the term “sway,” even if you don’t pull a trailer. It’s a common term in the RV industry and it means a side-to-side movement. Sway is normally associated with a travel trailer being pulled by a tow vehicle, but it can take on a whole new meaning for motorhome owners too.

Recently we purchased a new, 35’ Class A motorhome. The first time I drove it on the interstate I experienced this thing called sway, when a semi truck passed us. Rather than calling it sway, when a truck passes, I refer to it as the “push-pull effect.” As the truck is passing you, the first thing you feel is the air pressure from the truck pushing against the side of the motorhome. Then as the truck starts to go past the motorhome it pulls you back in. This sensation makes the motorhome feel top heavy.

Other terms used for sway, as it pertains to motorhomes, are “body roll” and “pitch.” You will experience these different types of sway whenever pressure is exerted against one side of the motorhome. It can be caused by a gust of wind, or due to a shift in weight while cornering. The effects of sway on a motorhome are increased because of the height and mass of the motorhome. Regardless of what term you use for sway, over time it takes its toll on the driver.

The solution to sway is in the motorhome suspension. Chassis manufacturers are aware of this problem and in an effort to reduce sway they use what is referred to as a sway bar. The sway bar is the link between the suspension system and the vehicle frame. The sway bar uses the weight of the rear axle as a brace against the chassis, so any pressure exerted against either side of the motorhome is countered by the sway bar. The problem with this, in many cases, is the stock sway bar, installed by the manufacturer, is not strong enough to absorb or counter the effects of sway or pressure against the sides of the motorhome.

Now that we know what the problem is, what can we do to fix it? Camping World has the solution and it’s an RSS sway bar by Roadmaster Inc. RSS sway bars have a thicker diameter than stock sway bars. They’re made of 4140 “chromoly” steel which is stronger and more durable than the spring steel used in most stock sway bar applications. The RSS sway bar works by reducing the body roll and balancing the weight transfer during cornering.

Another problem related to stock sway bars are the bushings they use. Sway bars pivot as pressure is constantly being countered by the bar. Most stock sway bars use rubber bushings at these pivot points. Rubber bushings harden and wear over time, causing the motorhome to roll or lean even more, from the same amount of pressure exerted against the side of the motorhome.  RSS sway bars use polyurethane bushings. Polyurethane won’t wear like rubber, and it holds up much better at these pivot points.

The installation took me about three hours. Our motorhome is on a Ford F-53 super duty Class A motorhome chassis. One step in the installation instructions said to torque the U-bolt nuts to the original manufacturer’s specifications. It took a couple of phone calls to find out what these torque specifications were. I also had to purchase a new torque wrench before I could start the installation. My torque wrench only went to 150 foot pounds and I needed one capable of 300 foot pounds. If you have the proper tools and facilities the installation is not that difficult. Pneumatic tools would help immensely. Some of the parts are heavy and bulky, so you will probably want an assistant to help with the installation. If you don’t have the proper tools, or if you don’t feel like tackling the installation by yourself, you can purchase your RSS sway bar at any Camping World Supercenter and let the pros install it for you. Call ahead to make sure they have the model you need on hand; Roadmaster makes these sway bars for specific motorhome chassis applications.

The real test was going to be how the motorhome handles on the road. Soon after I installed the RSS sway bar we loaded the motorhome and headed out on a trip to Niagara Falls. I drove the motorhome slightly over 7,000 miles without the RSS sway bar. After driving it 750 miles with the RSS sway bar all I can say is the difference is like night and day. I wish I had it on the motorhome the first 7,000 miles. The motorhome is more stable on the road, it handles and corners better and the body roll or sway was drastically reduced. And now when a truck passes it’s hardly noticeable. The RSS sway bar really makes getting there half the fun now.

Happy Camping!
Mark J. Polk
